10yr Anniversary of 'Gypset', Opening Night.

On Thursday 25th September 2014, my solo show 'Gypset' opened at Friends of Leon Gallery in Surry Hills, NSW. By far my most successful show to date, selling out even before I landed in Sydney, straight from Milan Fashion Week (that explains the Moschino outfit). The gallery was owned and run by my best friend Leon Krasenstein who did an incredible job guiding me through making the 31 original paintings, curating the show, securing sponsorship, promoting the fuck out of it and putting on the best opening night party that went 'till god knows what hour.
Looking through these photos and the images of the artwork I created 10 years later is an emotional experience. A lot has happened in the last decade. Some of the people in the photos are sadly no longer with us, some I met for the first time that night and became great friends, my husband and I are shocked at how fresh we look haha, and my gorgeous mum was still healthy and remembered who I was (the last photo is very special to me).
In a lot of ways my life feels like it’s been on hold since that time and as an artist you always wonder if you’ll ever succeed like that again. And what a pointless question that is to ask as things are ever changing and what was successful in 2014 will look different in the future.
Whenever Leon and I are in the same city, we always toast to ‘the exhibition’. Admittedly the last couple of times have been non-alc toasts for both of us. I’m immensely proud on myself for producing those works and will never forget that night. I hope these works still live on the walls of their buyers’ homes and I hope those buyers know that I’m forever grateful. ‘To the exhibition’! 🥂
PS apologies to the photographer, I have lost your details in the last decade!
